Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

What Is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. People with PTSD may struggle with intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, or intense emotional distress when reminded of the trauma. They may also experience heightened anxiety, irritability, difficulty sleeping, emotional numbness, or a tendency to avoid situations or people that trigger painful memories.

PTSD affects everyone differently, but it often leads to a feeling of being stuck in survival mode—constantly on edge, disconnected, or overwhelmed. The good news is that PTSD is treatable. Through compassionate, trauma-informed therapy approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), individuals can begin to process their trauma, reduce symptoms, and regain a sense of safety and control in their lives. Healing from trauma is possible, and therapy offers a path toward recovery and renewed resilience
