Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that helps people recover from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other distressing life experiences. Instead of only talking about your experiences, EMDR helps your brain “reprocess” painful memories through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation.

This process allows your brain to unblock stuck memories, reduce the intensity of emotional triggers, and reframe how past experiences affect your present life. Many clients describe feeling lighter, less reactive, and more in control after EMDR sessions.

Research shows that EMDR is one of the most effective therapies for trauma and PTSD—and it’s now widely used for a range of challenge.  By directly targeting the root of emotional distress, EMDR helps you move past old patterns and begin living with more calm, clarity, and resilience.

What to Expect

At Wellspace Utah, our EMDR therapists will walk you through every step of the process in a way that feels safe and supportive. Sessions typically include:

  • Identifying target memories or experiences

  • Using guided bilateral stimulation to reprocess painful material

  • Building healthy coping strategies and emotional regulation skills

  • Creating new pathways for resilience, healing, and balance

You remain in control the entire time—our role is to support and guide you toward healing at your own pace.

This process allows your brain to unblock stuck memories, reduce the intensity of emotional triggers, and reframe how past experiences affect your present life. Many clients describe feeling lighter, less reactive, and more in control after EMDR sessions.
